Moon
The moon is said to be one of the by-products thrown up by the
milky ocean when churned by the gods and demons for the sake of the amrta or nectar. Hence
it is considered to be the bowl containing the amrita from which the ancestors and gods
dring. Being the ruler of the world of the stars it is also the symbol of the
world beyond death. It also represents the cosmic mind, the mind of viratpurusa, the
sum-total of created objects. It is often considered as the dwelling place of the
ancestors.
